When the nation was in lockdown due to the pandemic the previous year, Ramayan was retelecasted nationwide after 33 years of its original telecast on public demand. The first telecast of Ramayan took place in 1987-1988 on the Doordarshan channel. Due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, many states have declared lockdowns and imposed curfews again in 2021. Thus a channel has decided to retelecast R amayan this year as well. Chikhila announced the news of the re-telecast of the show through Instagram on Thursday, April 15.
