2 children killed, 48 injured in Raigad bus accident

Mumbai: Two schoolchildren were killed and 48 others sustained injuries after a luxury bus they were travelling in overturned in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Sunday night, police said. According to the police, the incident occurred around 8pm on Sunday near the Magic Point on the Khopoli Ghat in Raigad. The injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals, where Hritika Khanna (17) and Raj Mhatre (16) were declared dead while the others are being treated. A total of 48 Class X students, along with two teachers, of the Mayank Coaching Classes in Chembur were on board the bus, when it overturned on the ghat and landed on its left side,” said superintendent of police (Raigad), Somnath Gharge. The injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals, where Hritika Khanna (17) and Raj Mhatre (16) were declared dead while the others are being treated. “We will record statements of the students and eyewitnesses to ascertain the exact sequence of events, and take legal action accordingly. At the moment, our priority is to ensure that all students and teachers aboard the bus are accounted for and tended to,” said an officer.

Coaching class owner stabbed to death in Mumbai

MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, the owner of a private coaching class was stabbed to death by his employee for sacking him from the job in Mayank Mandot (28), the owner of Mayank Tutorials was in his class on Sunday evening at around 6.45 pm when his former employee Ganesh Pawar stabbed him with a chopper. Pant Nagar police said the attack was so brutal that Mayank fell down and died within a few minutes. He was rushed to Shatabdi hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Pant Nagar police have arrested the accused Pawar and registered a case of murder against him. They have also recovered the chopper used in the crime. Pawar told police that he was angry at Mayank for sacking him from the job on Friday.

While returning, the bus suddenly veered to its left side at the ghat section, near Magic Point, and crashed," said a Khopoli police officer. "The injured were rushed to hospitals and clinics. Two students succumbed to injuries." It is not clear how the bus toppled. It is likely that while descending the slope, it may have taken a sharp turn, which led to its falling on the left side, said sources. The bus driver and cleaner, who are also injured, will be questioned.
