Legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, died on Sunday morning in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after staying in the hospital for nearly a month. She was 92. The singer breathed her last at 8:12 am. She was admitted to the Mumbai hospital in early January this year, after testingpositive for Covid-19 and also diagnosed with pneumonia. On January 27, her official Twitter handle was updated with a statement that read, “Lata didi continues to be in ICU at Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai under treatment. She has been given a TRIAL of extubation (off the invasive Ventilator) this morning. Presently, she is showing signs of improvement but will remain under observation of the team of doctors headed by Dr Pratit Samdani. New Delhi: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar died in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday. She was 92. She was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park this evening. The funeral was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lata Mangeshkar was taken to the intensive care unit on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19. On Saturday, her condition had deteriorated again and she had to be put on ventilator support. She was under medical observation. Lata Mangeshkar was being treated for both pneumonia and COVID-19. Her symptoms were mild but she was in ICU because of her age, family said. Over the next few weeks, Lata Mangeshkar showed signs of improvement. However, on Saturday, hospital authorities said that Lata Mangeshkar had been put back on the ventilator after her health deteriorated, news agency ANI reported. Bhise and one more staff of her bureau, Ashwini, were present in the ICU as both of them were staff nurses, while family members waited outside. "Doctors were trying hard to save her, but on Saturday afternoon her urine output was off, which impacted her kidneys. We then took her on dialysis for two times, but there was no response from her," she said, adding that she breathed her last at the hospital at 8.12 am. "Earlier, when she was taken off ventilator, we had taken her around the hospital on a wheel chair. At that time, we thought we had won and would take her back home soon. But that was not to be as her condition soon worsened," she said. Bhise said her biggest regret will be that she won't be able to see the music legend who was responsible for helping her family.
