Indian Premier League: Jos Buttler hits 95 as Joe Root makes debut for Royals against Sunrisers

New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips was named player of the match for his game-changing 25 off seven balls Indian Premier League, Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals 214-2 (20 overs): Butter 95 (59), Samson 66 (38) Sunrisers Hyderabad 217-6 (20 overs): A Sharma 55 (34); Y Chahal 4-29 Sunrisers Hyderabad won by four wickets Scorecard . Table Joe Root made his Indian Premier League debut for Rajasthan Royals in a final-ball loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yuzvendra Chahal's four-wicket haul looked to have limited Sunrisers and give Root a victory on debut. But four boundaries in seven balls from Glenn Phillips and a six off the final ball from Abdul Samad guided Sunrisers to 217-6 and victory. Royals openers Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on 50 inside five overs before the England man enjoyed a 138-run partnership with captain Sanju Samson (66). He fell with nine deliveries remaining but with only two wickets falling for the hosts, Root was not called upon to bat. Sunrisers started their chase steadily with Abhishek Sharma (55) and Rahul Tripathi (47) anchoring the innings. Sharma was caught off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin, who, with Chahal, had put Royals in control. But New Zealand batter Phillips changed the game with three sixes and a four to reach 25 off seven balls before Samad's decisive hit. Sunrisers needed 17 off the final over and Samad was dropped off the first ball, then caught on the sixth delivery, but a no ball was called. Needing four to win, Samad then drove Sande...

Joe Root makes IPL debut as Sanju Samson names him in RR vs SRH Playing XI

Former England Test captain Joe Root is set to make his debut with the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Ahead of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, RR’s director of cricket and head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, was seen presenting Root with his maiden cap during the team huddle. The 32-year-old, who went unsold at the 2018 auction, was picked up for Rs. 1 crore ahead of this iteration of the IPL. Interestingly, just ahead of the cap presentation ceremony, Root told the broadcasters: ”I may not be playing but I feel like I have had a huge amount of learning in the last few weeks. If I get an opportunity, I’ll try to do my best for the side.” Root, who has accumulated 18,048 runs in a much-celebrated international career, also said, it has been quite some time since he could devote his full concentration to the Twenty20 format. “I’m very passionate about playing for England clearly. It was a dream to just play one Test match, let alone so many. Looking forward to what’s to come later on in the year. But got my hands full now, and I’m enjoying what’s happening here right now. The last few weeks have been really good to just be around T20 cricket. Been a long time since I’ve had a block of time to concentrate only on T20,” he said. Root has been away from the T20 set up with the Three Lions, having played his last T20I for England in May 2019. However, he played a key role in England’s runner-up finish during the 2016 T20 World Cup...

On 'Most Successful IPL Team', Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard Engage In Hilarious Banter. Watch

In the video, Pollard began the banter by asking Bravo how it felt to have won 5 titles in the IPL. The former MI all-rounder flaunted the fact that he has been a 5-time champion for three years already while the ex-CSK star has just joined him in that league. Bravo said that while Pollard has won all his titles as a player, he hasn't experienced the feeling only as a coach but also a player. The debate also went into the two players discussing their overall success in franchise cricket, with Bravo saying that he has 17 titles in total while Pollard has only 15. "Can someone help me settle this debate @kieron.pollard55 believes that his team is the most successful IPL team @chennaiipl is the most successful IPL team. Furthermore, he @kieron.pollard55 wants to talk about trophies @kieron.pollard55 you are still on #15 #sirchampion," Bravo captioned the video.

Photograph: Kind courtesy Rajasthan Royals/Twitter His first-ever season in the IPL will be a season of many firsts as Joe Root prepares with his Rajasthan Royals teammates for the season in the pink city. Speaking ahead of a practice session on Tuesday, the 32-year-old spoke about his new team: "It's a real family environment. Everyone seems to want to create that feel around things that it's more than just performances on the field. It's been a very warm welcome from the very first call, they said they were delighted to get me in the auction and I'm really looking forward to catching up further down the line." "I've been here for a couple of days and feel very much a part of things already. I think it's a really nice environment to play cricket and I'm looking forward to it. I am being extremely well looked after and eventually, that helps me excel on the field," he added. The England cricketer is looking forward to the season. "I'm really excited, it's an experience that you can't replicate anywhere else in the world. I've never experienced it before so it's all going to be very new to me, which, for an experienced player that's played a lot of international cricket, is really exciting." "I've heard a lot of things. And I'm really looking forward to living it now. It's gonna be a very special year with the fact that the Royals are coming back to Jaipur and connecting with the fans and the city again. There has never been an Ashes buildup quite so stripped back and seat-of-the-pants as this one, and certainly not for such a decisive-looking red-ball summer. Illustration: David Lyttleton There has never been an Ashes buildup quite so stripped back and seat-of-the-pants as this one, and certainly not for such a decisive-looking red-ball summer. Illustration: David Lyttleton The guard dies. But it does not surrender! These famous words may or may not have been uttered at the battle of Waterloo by Pierre Cambronne, one of those indestructible French imperial general types who looks like his entire body has been patched together from goose liver, marzipan, powdered wig and duelling scars. Admittedly some sources record Cambronne’s actual response on being asked to surrender as simply “shit”; which sounds, on balance, more relatable. But it doesn’t really matter. The to-the-death stuff is great optics, eyeballs, vibes, energy. And in this same vein there has been something of the no-surrender general about Stuart Broad’s inexhaustible and increasingly entertaining commitment to preserving the legend and primacy of the Ashes. Which, just to remind everyone, starts in two months’ time and which probably should be getting a bit more in the way of buildup ahead of what may yet turn out to be its own doomed last stand this summer. Read more For now Broad is pretty much a lone buzz generator and hype-man. The quotes, well, the quotes have been vintage, knee-pounding stuff. At the s...
