WWC 2022: Jhulan Goswami becomes first woman to enter 250

Jhulan Goswami has made it a habit of scripting new feats or milestones during every Indianwomen's game. In Mithali Raj-led India's fourth encounter of their ongoing campaign in the ICC Women's World Cup, Jhulan made heads turn once again by becoming the first-ever woman to enter the 250-wicket club when she removed Tammy Beaumont for 1. After India failed miserably with the bat to be dismissed for a paltry 134 in 36.2 overs, the onus was on the bowlers to build pressure with some quick wickets. After Meghna Singh accounted for Danielle Wyatt's wicket, pacer Jhulan struck in her second over itself and dismissed Beaumont to script history by becoming the first woman to enter the elusive 250-wicket club. Interestingly, the first player to take 250 scalps in men's ODIs was also an Indian; i.e. Kapil Dev.

Jhulan Goswami: Cricket pays tribute to legendary India bowler after ODI retirement

Jhulan Goswami - arguably the best fast bowler women's cricket has seen - was playing in her 204th and final one-day international. And Goswami didn't disappoint, taking a miserly 2-30 from 10 typically canny overs on an emotional afternoon which saw presentations before play, a guard of honour when she batted, before a heartwarming huddle with team-mates after bowling her final delivery. "It is the end of an era," said former India captain Mithali Raj, reflecting on Goswami's stellar 20-year career. Goswami, 39, went into her final match before retirement as the leading wicket-taker in women's ODIs with 253 wickets in 204 matches. She made her debut at the age of 19 against England in Chennai in January 2002. Goswami has also played 12 Test matches and 86 Twenty20 internationals, playing her last in that format in 2018. Her final farewell came at Lord's, where India lost by just nine runs to England in the World Cup final in 2017, the second final in which she played and lost. But she leaves international cricket with a series win as India wrapped up a 3-0 success, their first series win in England since 1999. Source: Cricinfo "I'd like to thank the BCCI, my team-mates, my coaches, my captains - everyone. Thank you for this opportunity, this is a special moment," Goswami said before the match. "When I started my career in 2002, I played my first series against England and I'm ending against England. "Each and every moment has emotions for me. The 2017 World Cup, the way o...
