For the first time in four editions, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will be hosting an IPL-like auction for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL), slated to take place on Wednesday, June 14. Notably, the tournament will be played from July 31 to August 22, as this is for the first time the tournament will be hosted in the original window as COVID-19 previous editions. Meanwhile, SLC has revealed that each franchise will have US$ 500,000, which totals up to a sum of US$ 2.5 million from all five teams in the auction. The likes of David Miller, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Maheesh Theekshana have already signed by three-time champions Jaffna Kings while Colombo Stars managed to get Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Matheesha Pathirana and Chamika Karunaratne on board. On the other hand, Matthew Wade, Lungi Ngidi, Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando are the direct signings of Dambulla Aura while Galle Gladiators have signed veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dasun Shanaka, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Lastly, Kandy Falcons signed Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fakhar Zaman, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Angelo Mathews.
