he Indian Journal of Tuberculosis, published in India since 1953 onwards, is devoted to the speciality of tuberculosis and lung diseases. This Journal is the official organ of the Tuberculosis Association of India, a non-governmental organization. It publishes scientific articles contributed by authors from all over the world, specially India. Subjects covered include clinical, epidemiological, public health and social aspects of tuberculosis. It also includes interesting case reports on patients suffering from pulmonary, extra-pulmonary tuberculosis as well as other respiratory diseases and abstracts of interesting articles published in other reputed journals. The articles published are a key source of information on research in tuberculosis in Asia and in particular for the countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region. India is an acknowledged leader in tuberculosis research, and other developing countries too look towards India to provide answers. The best article published in the journal carries with it an annual award presented at the Annual National Conference. Globally, with an estimated 10 million new cases and around 1.4 million deaths, TB has emerged as one of the top 10 causes of morbidity and mortality in 2019. Worst hit 8 countries account for two thirds of the new TB cases in 2019, with India leading the count. Despite India's engagement in various TB control activities since its first recognition through the resolution passed in the All-India Sanitary Conference in 1912 and launch of first National Tuberculosis Control Programme in 1962, it has remained a major public health challenge to overcome. To accelerate progress towards the goal of ending TB by 2025, 5 years ahead of the global SDG target, it is imperative to outline the incidence and mortality trends of tuberculosis in India. Indian Journal of Tuberculosis (IJTB) is an international peer-reviewed journal devoted to the specialty of tuberculosis and lung diseases and is published quarterly. IJTB publishes research on clinical, epidemiological, public health and social aspects of tuberculosis. The journal accepts original research articles, viewpoints, review articles, success stories, interesting case series and case reports on patients suffering from pulmonary, extra-pulmonary tuberculosis as well as other respiratory diseases, Radiology Forum, Short Communications, Book Reviews, abstracts, letters to the editor, editorials on topics of current interest etc. The articles published in IJTB are a key source of information on research in tuberculosis.
