Updated October 3, 2022 Each year, Indian Air Force Day or “Bhartiya Vaayu sena divas” is celebrated on 8 October nationwide. The very special occasion seeks to honor Indian Air Force (IAF), highlight their great job, and to acknowledge their contribution in emboldening national security. Also, the day is observed to create awareness around the world about IAF as an organization committed to build authority of India as a strong nation. Official celebration of Indian Air Force Day is organized at Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The IAF chief and senior members of the three-armed forces are specially present to grace the day. The date 8 October has been designated as IAF Day to mark the foundation of air defense of India. On this day in 1932, the Air Force in India was officially established and raised as a supplemental force to the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom (UK). History of Indian Air Force Day As we have mentioned above, on October 1932 Indian Air Force was formally established by the British Empire. And the first flight came on 1 April 1933. Marking 90 years of excellence, the Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrations began at Sukhna Lake in Punjab's Chandigarh with a band march and parade. This is the first time that the annual parade and fly-past is being held outside Delhi-NCR in relation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives to take major events and festivities out of the National capital region to different parts of the country Air Force Day marks the official induction of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1932. Every year on October 8, the IAF day is celebrated in the presence of the Indian Air Force chief and senior officers. People across the country observe this day to honour the Indian Air Force and be familiar with the important force for national security. New Delhi: The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 90th anniversary today by taking the event outside Delhi for the first time. The celebrations, which are being held in Chandigarh, will feature a dazzlinghour-long air display over the Sukhna Lake with as many as 80 aircraft. A new combat uniform was alsounveiled today. Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall VR Chaudhary, the chief guest, reviewed the parade and announced the creation of a new operational branch of the Air Force. "On this historic occasion, it's my privilege to announce that the government has approved the creation of a Weapon System Branch for the officers in the IAF. This is the first time since independence that a new operational branch is being created. This will essentially be for manning of force specialised streams of surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, remotely piloted aircraft, and weapon system operators in twin and multi-crew aircraft," Air chief VR Chaudhary said, adding that itwill save the government more than Rs 3,400 crore due to the reduced expenditure on flying training. Induction Of Rafale Aircraft Into Indian Air Force By 2022: IAF Chief RKS Bhadauria

Hyderabad: IAF Chief RKS Bhadauria on Saturday said the induction of 36 Rafale aircraft into the Indian Air Force would take place by 2022. The IAF is absolutely on target with respect to the Rafale induction plan, he said while responding to a reporters' query on timeline for receiving the 36 fighter jets from France. "The target is 2022. It is absolutely on target. I mentioned earlier. Except for one or two aircraft, minor delays because of COVID related issues, but, in fact, some deliveries have been ahead of time. So, broadly, we are absolutely on target on the Rafale induction plan. On the operationalisation plan, you are aware, we are fully operational.. so, in terms of time, we will be absolutely on time," he told reporters after reviewing the Combined Graduation Parade (CGP) at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal in Hyderabad. In 2016, India had signed an inter-governmental agreement with France to procure 36-Rafale jets at a cost Rs 59,000 crore. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had in February said the country would have the entire fleet of the fighter aircraft by April 2022. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari PVSM AVSM VM ADC was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on 29 Dec 1982. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Flying Instructors’ School and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The Chief has a rich and varied experience of operational flying, having flown over 3800 hours. During his career, he has held numerous Command and Staff appointments and has been an Air Force Examiner on fighter and trainer aircraft. He is a Cat ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor and an Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner. The Chief has the unique distinction of being an instructor at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington as well as Defence Services Command and Staff College, Zambia. The Air Chief Marshal has commanded a frontline fighter squadron and two important fighter bases. Some of his notable assignments include Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Air Defence), Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel Officers) and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, where he spearheaded several major procurement cases of the IAF. He later was Air Officer Commanding-in- Chief of Western Air Command and Vice Chief of the Air Staff before taking over as Chief of the Air Staff on 30 Sep 21. He is married to Mrs Neeta Chaudhari and they are blessed with two sons.
